Here is the update: On Monday we coincidentally had purchased new tires for my fiance's vehicle from Calgary Puck's favorite tire shop and the install date was today. So I went down to Horton Road to get her new tires installed and told the owner my Kal Tire story. He said to have the Kal Tire car towed to his shop and he will get to the bottom of it all.
So the update is that a reputable tire specialist will give you the real story soon...
A moral of the story is that my fiance picks better tire shops than I do
