I kinda went into it cold turkey not knowing anything about it. Started out kinda weird and seemingly low budget. But as it went I got completely hooked. Sad that it was only 3 seasons.
Set essentially during the reign of Alfred the great. Based on a fictional character who was born a Saxon but raised as a Viking.

I'll second that, I'm a sucker for the dramatized histories
Roman Empire,
Crown,
Turn,
Marco Polo (listen to Dan Carlins Wrath of the Kahns podcast with this)
Medci, there's two of them, I'm not actually sure which one I watched.
Season 1 of Outlander then just stop and pretend there isn't more, the first season is pretty targeted at a middle aged female demographic, but I enjoyed the insight into Scottish nationalism, after that it takes a sharp turn to soapy romance fantasy, and fails to find the same level of insight about the other settings the drop the characters into, they send them to interesting times and places, but have nothing to say about their settings.
