Hell. You know what, the more I think about this game, the more I like it from a learning perspective.
Don't get me wrong, I want to see wins and I want to keep separation in the division. Despite this being a bit of a bore fest, it kind of had a playoff feel to it. There wasn't a ton of space and Tom Wilson was running around like an idiot.
The Flames were far from sharp, but it was a game that I think they can look back on. The top line isn't always going to be able to dictate, the defense isn't always going to be able to move the puck unencumbered. I hate to say it because I love the guy, but Backlund can't take that penalty in the last 2 minutes. It kind of reminded me of the Anaheim series two years ago. Awful goaltending AND bad penalties at bad times sunk that series. Learning experience.
I agree wholeheartedly with whoever said this earlier. This isn't a heavy team. They don't play a heavy game. Acquiring one tough player isnt going to change that.
These guys have to play their game, it is what got them to this point.
Tkachuk will do what he does. Neal and Bennett will hopefully do what they do, but this team is not built on physicality. Skating and skill is the name of the game.
