Can Brad be “mean” enough to demote or release Smith if a deal comes along for a better backup? It’s easy for us to say Smith sucks get him off the team but Brad has to actually look him in the eye and tell him he’s no longer an NHL goalie. It would suck but I hope he has the stones to do it.

Brad Treliving has had to make a fair share of difficult personnel decisions as general manager.
- Not qualifying Emile Poirier after his well-publicized battles with addiction
- Letting go of the first man he hired as a head coach instead of letting pride get in the way
- Firing the reigning coach of the year
- Staring down Curtis Glencross and not even offering him a tryout in the offseason after he went to free agency
- Waiving Curtis Lazar, even with the player's consent, little over a year after paying a huge price for him
I don't think Treliving will struggle with managing Smith.
