Your car analogy doesn't make sense, but ignoring everything wrong with that, you still have the option not to buy the car in the end. Just like you have the option not to buy games that only exist on Epic if you really hate their platform. Market forces will decide on whether Epic's or any other platform succeeds or not.

Like you said, if Epics platform is truly terrible, nobody will use it and it'll die, no harm done. Consumers demand ease of use and convenience. If I really wanted to play a game but it ran off some crappy platform, I'll just pirate it. The beauty of steam is how well it works, they made purchasing, playing, updating, modding everything about gaming easy as possible.
