It's a fair opinion you have there, but to counter, I think nicknames have always been a part of hockey, and it's not likely going to change. It gives fans and rivals something to kick around at each other. This thread is not necessarily a slam McDavid show - I personally think he's a great player being ruined in Edmonton. That's why I said to include oilfan and sympathy nicknames along with the obvious rivalry versions.
I'm fine with Oil fans calling Johnny whatever they like, particularly when he is outscoring their Savior at half the price.

Don't need to tell me. I don't know if any of my group of long-life friends call each other by their given names as everyone has a nickname or two or three. It almost feels strange to address them properly. I'm not condemning anyone that wants to call him a name. For whatever reason I have never really gone the nickname route in sports for opposing players.
