Slight update from LeBrun. He still says the Canes are going to ask for a first for Ferland. Preferably a first plus a prospect. Canes will try to play the contenders off each other to drive up the price.
Simmonds will fetch a slightly better price LeBrun speculates because he has better pedigree.

The Pacific-Division leading Flames will look to add. They’ve afforded themselves that opportunity with a wonderful season to date.
“You always as a team and a coaching staff want to put yourself in a good position come trade deadline to be guys that are looking to acquire, add on, if you’re missing any pieces,’’ Flames head coach Bill Peters said on Saturday. “We really like the team that we have, so it’ll be interesting to see, there’s lots of hockey between now and the deadline. We’ll see what happens health-wise with our team. But definitely, it would be nice to add and complete what are perceived holes if we have any holes and become a better team.’’
I love the idea here of Ferland being reacquired by the Flames. Undoubtedly GM Brad Treliving will inquire at some point with Carolina but I also think he’s going to set a ceiling on what he’s willing to pay.

Based on that it looks like Treliving is likely just going to keep tabs on the situation and try to swoop in if the Canes push the other bidders away.
