So that got me thinking...

Arizona should offer a 4 year 16 mill contract to Matthews. There is no way Toronto could match that. Sure, Matthews goes UFA in 4 years but Arizona could just offer another max contract.

Arizona NEEDS to go after Matthews. I think they lose their team if they don't. They can't afford not to. Plus, they're always struggling to hit the cap floor anyway.
totally agree...I am surprised that there aren't more offer sheets quite frankly...

Arizona, imo, would be silly not to offer him... hometown kid... seems like his relationship with Babcock can be strained at times, the incessant media glare of Toronto...

I no longer think NYI offer sheets Matthews due to their recent success... they might not need to do anything...

in the case of Arizona, they don't owe anything to Toronto; They do owe their long suffering fans a product they would support. Matthews gives you that, and he might even want to go back to Arizona, which is something more of a unicorn for Arizona when you consider elite hockey talent.

Toronto is in trouble imo... not sure how they can sign marner/matthews/reilly/kaspenen under the cap

and even if they do move, you still need a franchise player to build a new fanbase.
