Say you're talbot this season:
The team has left you high and dry, they've signed your backup to an outrageous deal and are letting you twist in the wind.
They are trying to send you to another terrible team to make themselves better.
Why on earth would you waive? Talbot is looking at a scenario where he can collect his money in edmonton over the next few months and hit free agency and go anywhere while being able to argue "sure my stats were bad, I was playing for the OILERS" and then sign a dubnyk (remember him?) deal with an actual team of your choosing. It's really only a couple more months in Edmonton at this point and then you're gone.
I would 100% be holding out for a trade to a competitive team where I could showcase my talents. Why would Talbot be looking to do the oilers any favours at this point.
Hang on, kid, salvation is almost here!
