On the bold: Sure. And that means a multi-year contract and a raise. But nearly doubling his salary? No, that does not follow. Especially since he essentially got this contract on the basis of a seven game home winning streak.

As for the second paragraph, the possibility that proven goaltenders may get overpaid does not make this signing of an unproven Koskinen a good deal. Your argument is basically the equivalent of saying that the contract we signed Troy Brouwer to was fine because the Oilers paid too much for Milan Lucic. The reality remains that both contracts were terrible.
