While using the debit card and incurring transaction fees for such small purchases isnt smart, I believe that using a credit card that is associated with an award is smart, even for small purchases. For example, I use an American Airlines credit card..1 dollar is 1 mile. The daily Starbucks my husband drinks might only cost a couple of dollars, but in a year, thats about 750 miles alone! We put everything (including our rent) on this credit card, and then we're able to fly to Alberta free, once a year

We were going to spend the money anyways, whether it be cash or cc or debit card, so we might as well get something free out of it.
