It is completely different. Doctors are practicing Science based Medicine. They are using up to date knowledge to provide the best care for their patients. They may mess up a dosage or misdiagnose something though.
The Stephens actively ignored what is best for their son and turned to unproven snake oil (which they sell) to treat him. There is a big difference here.
