This is the opposite of what we should do. If we are writing letters, they should be in defense of Chia.
I do think the narrative that when Chia was hired the team was loaded with talent on the verge of success and then he pissed it all away is a bit rich. When Chia was hired, they had just missed the playoffs for a decade, they had drafted incredibly poorly and ruined almost every decent prospect they brought to town. They had a culture of losing that was explained by Ference where they made fun of anyone who put effort in at practice and stayed out partying every night until 5 AM. The players knew they could get any coach fired and they didn't mind losing.
Chia inherited a mess, but for one year, he was able to give everyone in Edmonton some hope and to do that he had to mortgage the future. Now, the Oilers are back to what they were for the decade before he arrived. At least he gave them one good season which is more than anyone was able to do before he got there.
