The Flames would need to go 29-7-0 (.806 winning percentage) in order to best them. The 1976-77 Canadiens had a points percentage of 0.825. The 1977-78 Canadiens had a points percentage of .80625. So it's totally doable.
I'm surprised that a self proclaimed math god doesn't know this.
