I don't understand the phrase "You have to hold it a certain way
in order to see the screen properly..."
Do you mean that as long as you bend or "raise" the screen to a proper
level, only then you can see it? If you let go or move the screen, then
it completely goes away, or just looks crappy?
If so, it could be as simple as a cable has come loose.
One thing to try is, does this laptop have a monitor out? If so,
hook it up to a normal CRT or LCD monitor. Does it work?
