Assuming they don't trade for Reinhart and they take Barzal, the Oilers top 6 forwards right now could be:
RNH - McDavid - Draisaitl
Hall - Barzal - Eberle
If they draft Connor, it's:
RNH - McDavid - Connor
Hall - Draisaitl - Eberle
Either way, it's as good of a top 6 as any in the league. All they had to do was nothing.

Don't kid yourself, the Oilers had to move Hall. The recent Ference comments are confirmation on all the stories and twitter pictures.
The issue isn't trading Hall, it's what they got in return.
