With Episode IX under a year a away with the promise of it being the end of the Skywalker saga, I thought it would be fun to add in some of the goofier predictions for the movie, or story lines that have been discussed in the past, with some of my thoughts. Some of these could be considered spoilerish but its more speculation on my part, but I thought that I would put them in here. These rumors come from various spots on the internet.
Spoiler!
Snoke is Darth Plagueis - Snoke is in fact the Master of Darth Sidious the legendary Sith Master who used midi-clorians to cheat death.
Surprisingly this one is still bouncing out there as fans refuse to accept his inconsequential and silly death with a comedy twist. Plus the insistence by Star Wars fans that everything has some sort of twist or deeper meaning.
Personally I can't see it for one big reason, actually two.
1) Not all Star Wars fans are that emerged in Lore, add to that the only nod to Plagueis was in ROTS in the excellent Opera House scene. If they bought him back it would make Palpatine look like a poser instead of a powerful Sith Lord. Plus the casual fan wouldn't care about some big reveal that he was an EU character.
2) It would distract from the Kylo, Ray storyline, this next movie will pretty much focus on the battle between the dark and the light one on one.
Rey is the daughter of Ben Kenobi
I don't know this is dubious as hell. I can't see Ben being the guy that runs out on his daughter. Plus we have to remember that this story takes place about 30 years after the fall of the Empire so she's a little young. The extension of this theory is that she's his grandaughter. But again, the question of relevance would come into play at that point.
Rey is the daughter of Han and Leia
I think that this has been dispelled, there was no reason for Leia to not tell her after Han died.
Rey is another Force created Grey Super being
I have to admit that I was into this theory for a while, mainly because she fought a lot like Sidious in the Force Awakens, and she looked predatory in that fight which to me meant that she could use the light and the Dark side and Control it. I do believe that Rey will eventually walk away from the galaxy and become a celestial like the Father, son and Daughter in the clone Wars.
Rey and Kylo will flip the switch in IX
I always thought that this one held a lot of credibility and made some sense as Rey goes evil and Kylo redeems himself and they end up killing each other off leaving the Galaxy Forceless. You have to admit that it would be the twist of twists. But I believe that Disney would really hesitate in making Rey evil as she's been the poster child for female empowerment.
Rey and Kylo can Force walk and go back to see Anakin's fall and killing of younglings and force chocking Padme.
This one has been bouncing around that Hayden and Natalie have been involved in the shooting of IX. I don't know what the point of it would be except for a combination of a cool force power and some kind of Its a Wonderfull life scenario. We know from the Clone Wars that there is a world between world that allows you to travel to points in time. But I think that this would overly complicate things.
Hux becomes the Big Bad.
Hux kinda sucks, mainly because they completely ruined him in The Last Jedi. But there's an intriguing theory that Hux turns on Ren and takes over the First Order which leads to Rey and Kylo uniting and killing both of the Resistance and First Order off. This one has me intrigued and makes some sense. Hux hates Ren and wants power. Having him appeal to loyalist officers in the First order to execute his own version of Order 66 could be a thing.
We finally see the Knights of Ren
This one makes a ton of sense in my mind, first of all because this movie is supposed to jump ahead several years and Ren will be fully enshrined as the leader of the First Order and having his hit squad of force sensitive former jedi's pursuing the Resistance would really make sense and have a chase element similar to Empire Strikes back.
Darth Vader's Force Ghost makes an appearance
Ren is still obsessed with finishing the job of his Grandfather, so in a strange convoluted way it would make sense to have Ren converse with his grandfather. The question is, would it be redeemed Anakin or Vader himself encouraging his grandson. As part two, there are rumors of a return by Palpatine. I would think that there is a strong possibility that Ren finds a Holocron made by Palpatine that helps him gain more powers.
Grand Admiral Thrawn returns
There are rumors that Richard E Grant is playing the Blue skinned Grand Admiral who we last saw flying off to the unknown with Ezra Bridger. I don't know how Chiss aging works but he'd be older then dirt by now. Also even though it would be a cool fan service, do they want to introduce a new sub villain in a movie that already has a lot to do? Lucas tried it with Grievous and to me it didn't really work.
The Millenium Falcon gets destroyed.
I think that this would be appropriate as an ending point to the Skywalker arc. Nothing says closure more then blowing up the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy, though I'd do it at the start of the movie instead of the end.
