I think it's more than people are just tired of the constant complaining warranted or not rather than think he's been good this season. Everyone knows he's had a bad season but as someone who is unbiased to either goalie it gets tiring after a while hearing people say a goal he let in was bad but then Rittich lets in a similar goal and they say he had no chance.

A bad goal is a bad goal whether it's on Smith, Rittich, Price, Fleury, .etc. Rittich has played well enough where when he lets in a bad goal people shouldn't pile on him while Smith deserves it but they should atleast acknowledge it was bad. And if they don't think it was then they shouldn't think it was bad on Smith either no matter how bad they think he's been this season.
