That is a really good point, the market should value them based on value to the team.
Although I wonder if the market is underpaying. I've got to think the leagues best backup is probably only 1 or maybe 1.5 mm more than the worst. I think the best backup stats would have the Flames with 4-6 more standings points than Mike Smith, which seems like money ball style value to me.
