I don't like the minor penalty example. That's a hockey play. The player gets rid of the puck because he is aware of the impending contact. Not a late hit, not a penalty.

The first example of the 5 minute major makes perfect sense. The puck is gone and the player is vulnerable because of the way the play occurs. It's an unnecessary hit at that point and it takes advantage of a vulnerable player.

But the next example of a major penalty isn't the same at all. The player has his head up and can see the player coming in to check him. The player needed to protect himself a little better, but instead he gets hit square in the chest.

The Match Penalty example is perfectly fine. That's a predatory hit well after the puck is gone. Get that stuff out of the game ASAP.

So a mixed bag of examples to be honest. It will be interesting to see how they call it this tournament. My bet is the Canadian players get more than their share of these calls against them.
