You can solve a lot of things via a lateral trade. For instance, If we traded Neal right now for Cory Schneider and he starts to pick up his game for New Jersey, then that’s goal scoring that they never would have had. That would easily be a good trade for New Jersey.
From a Flames perspective, if Schneider played any better than Smith, that would also be a positive. The Flames would also gain a contract with one year less term which is very important considering that Gaudreau’s contract would end at the same time as Schneider’s and his buyout would also hurt less if it came down to that.
Lastly, burying a contract in the minors doesn’t save you much cap space, but that’s not what I was saying. I was just saying that if Schneider really was that bad, then we could send him to the minors and then buyout his contract. If he can get back to his old ways, then heck, we found a new back up with out screwing up our current cap situation.
