He isn't as good as McDavid, but he is close. Being the franchise player for a Leafs team that could be contenders for many years, he will generate more revenue for the Leafs and NHL than McDavid will for the Oilers and NHL.

In a soft or no cap world, sure. But in a hard cap world? No way, not if they want to win.
TO is gonna be in a very sticky situation here, I think the Tavares signing might come back to but them in the butt. If Matthews is 12.5, what is Marner? 10? Kappanen? 5? There defense is still below average too and that's if they can get Gardner done, who is probably going to want 6+. If they can't keep him, they are worse then Edmonton D wise.
