McKenzie says there has been more trade talk this December than ever before
doesn't guarantee a trade will happen before the Holiday Roster freeze on Dec 19
some GMs McKenzie talked to say this much chatter is unprecedented
some people believe reason for increased trade talks because LA, CHI, STL, and PHI are having disappointing seasons

LeBrun: the Hurricanes almost had a trade last week with a western conference team that fell through at the 11th hour
Canes were on in Nylander and now have interest in Kapanen
Canes have lots of young d-men they are offering for a top 6 forward

no doubt in McKenzie's mind that Leafs will try to add a defenceman before the trade deadline
anybody that has a good defenceman, Toronto will be willing to talk to them
assets Toronto may move: Kapenen, Johnsson, Brown

Kings GM Blake is all ears right now on everyone except Doughty and Kopitar
no one is sure on what that means for Quick
Lebrun doesn't believe Kings are shopping him but some teams are sniffing around
it may depend on the offer for Quick, who also doesn't have a NTC
Kings need to turn over their roster and get younger

Jeff Carter expected to draw lots of interest
whether it is Boston, Arizona, or any other team looking for forwards
has 3 years left at $5.27 mil cap hit, but what is really manageable is that he is only owed $7 miliion total over the last 3 years
doesn't have no trade protection and loves it in LA BUT if he gets traded somewhere he doesn't want to go, retirement is an option for him
If Carter did retire, Kings would be hit with a recapture penalty of $3.75/year over next 3 years

Seattle has 10-12 names for GM
won't approach candidates until after season is over
