Yep, just because the the 3 struggling are struggling doesnt mean keeping your stars is a mistake, it means you need to supplement it with drafting well or finding good young players another way
Look at waahington last year, they finally won because they got an injection of a group of young difference makers, so that it wasnt all on ovie and backstrom
Same with pittsburgh, for years they had the depth down the middle, but crosby and malkin had no winger help, and kessel was a great pickup, but sheary and guentzel and rust contributions were the difference in their last cup win
From a flames perspective, in 2 or 3 yeara, giordano probably wont be a top pairing d man, he may even be left unprotected to seattle i saw a few people mention. Thats where the flames will need hanifin to make a leap, and someone like kylington or valimaki to replace him.
