I am of the age where I really don't need anything so I suggested something different when my children asked me for my Christmas list last year.

I suggested that they buy or book things that we could all do together. While my children live close to me, they have busy lives and sometimes it is hard to get together on a regular basis.

My son bought all os us tickets to the dinner theater at Fort Calgary which was a murder mystery and a lot of fun.

My daughter took us to a restaurant where we could concentrate on just visiting instead of food preparation and clean up.

We all thought it worked very well so are planning to make this our tradition. It might not work for younger families but it works for where my family and I are at the present time.
