In this particular case, I believe this is Derrek Wills just trying to stick up for a colleague and save face. It would appear very unprofessional, especially in sports media, to throw a fellow sports journalist under the bus. This is one of those things Wills has to say, even if he personally disagrees.
Given that there is no real update yet on Backlund's status; it is baseless speculation. It is not correct, or incorrect.
