Arizona is one of only three teams in the Division with a positive goal-differential, and one of four teams in the Division with an equal-to or better-than 0.500 W/L record.

They appear far behind by virtue of a light schedule, but the Coyotes are right in the thick of it with SJ, Anaheim and VGK for those #2–3 Division spots.
I meant so far behind in talent and development, not current standings. I find it hard looking at their roster, to think that they aren't numerous pieces and several years away from contending. The only reason they are hanging in there is because of goaltending, but by the time the rest of their roster catches up, Raanta's contract will likely be up.

It seems a shame to waste his prime years as a plug while they wait to see if their rebuild takes root.
