Whereas from Carolina's point of view –
Outbound: Two guys going into their second contracts, who were going to mess up the plan for the team to crawl along with its belly pressed to the salary floor.
Inbound: One guy we can cut loose after this year, and another who's highly tradeable, and at worst can go UFA in three years' time. Plus a good D prospect that, if we sign him, we can get on an ELC and save even more money down the road.
From a hockey standpoint it's a rotten trade, but in terms of the new owner's priorities it's great.
