Like I said, I don't think it could happen, and I will only believe it when I see it. The pressure on the Oilers would be so intense that it would likely require more than any team could reasonably afford to move in order to complete a deal. Moreover, I think the only possible scenario in which McDavid would be moved is one in which he would insist to be traded. This would almost certainly dramatically reduce the value of any possible return.

In any potential trade, money in, money out would have to be close to even for both teams.
McDavid at 12.5m, so other teams would be sending somewhere around that number in cap hit back:
EIther:
a very good player ($8-9M), plus a OK depth player ($3-4 million) + Picks
Or
Two Pretty good players ($6-7M each) + Picks.
Not impossible, but its hard to balance out a trade that works for both sides - both in terms of both sides liking the players they are getting back, AND in making it work for both sides within salary cap parameters.
