I have 0 issues with trading a first round pick for another player who is young and can contribute on the team. I would be against trading a first round pick for any player who is over 25.

Honestly, it's all hypothetical but I would have definitely given up a first round pick for Max Domi last year. It's a lot better to have a player who is proven or proving themselves than hoping for some magic beans (Poirier, Klimchuk, Nemisz, Baertschi, Erixon,Irving, Pelech, Chucko...)

I am just not very high on the Flames ability to make draft picks when they haven't done much with their top round picks in a long time aside from the Top 10 picks when the decision was basically made for them. Backlund and Jankowski are the only 2 players in the past 20 years who were first round picks outside of the Top 10 and have done relatively well (jury still out on Jankowski)... Frankly, I don't think the second round is much better.
