Not so sure about this one.
Wouldn't surprise me in the least to see Gaudreau end up going to Phil/Bos/NYR/NJ by the time his current deal expires. To me it seems more likely than not.
he's from this area and I'm sure he would like to play for a team closer to home family & friends. But also, the Flames dug in pretty hard during their negotiations. IIRC Jonny & his agent were looking for around 8 and ended up coming in well under. His deal is a bargain for the Flames. It has been speculated that part of their capitulation was some of the Flames were in contact with Jonny asking him to sign and start the season on time. I don't think any of this is bound to repeat itself. Next contract, he's getting paid. I find it next to impossible he accepts a 'home town discount'.
If he resigns here, it's going to be 9-10+.
Anyway, this is all pure speculation & shouldn't be an issue for 2-3 years. I just wouldn't be so sure that he's here for another contract past this one.
