Larger cap hit were likely based on 8 year contracts.
For Nylander to get $7M and only commit one UFA year is a huge home run for him. Plus he essentially gets paid completely for his missed time and gets a large amount of his salary as bonuses.
This contract is actually better for Nylander than getting him for 8 years and $64M. He'll hit UFA at a great time for him, at age 28.
