Hitchcock is a smart guy, and his teams usually see a short-term bump. But it won't be enough to make the Oilers a playoff team.

The Oilers are three points back of third place Vancouver with three games in hand. Given how awful this division is, a short term bump could be enough to squeak in.
Though, assuming Calgary and San Jose manage to stay in two of those three divisional slots, Edmonton would have to finish ahead of Anaheim to get the third. And that is going to be a challenge for them.
