As to why Treliving has stuck with Smith as the #1 so far, the NHL has a deeply ingrained old boys culture. The capital that veterans build up with GMs and coaches lasts a long, long time. Too long, IMHO.

Well that is really depressing. He stuck with GG for 18 months too long and we all know how that experiment turned out.
