In my defense, I’ve long thought it was really offensive based almost entirely on a plot point from a book that is going to date me horribly, being Scott Young’s hockey classic Scrubs on Skates. https://www.amazon.ca/Scrubs-Skates-.../dp/0771090889 Rosy the French Canadian kid lost his mind over being called a frog and equated it to being called a chink and that always stuck with me. Haha. Oh well.

You're not wrong. Frog is in reference to french people eating frogs which many people consider weird or gross. It's meant to be offensive and you can imagine how other races/cultures would take it if you made fun of what they ate... I won't give examples.
That being said, I don't think anyone meant anything by it and we can all move on.
