I guess growing up in an age where 16 out of 21 teams made the playoffs, I'd like to see it expanded. Back then it was 76% of teams that make it, going to 20 out of 31/32 teams would be 62-65%. Also seeing the Flames finish 9-10th several times stings for me.

Make it simple:
Round 1- Teams placing 4th and 5th play a 3 game series for the final spot.
Round 2- Go back to making it a best of 5 series.
Remaining rounds stay at 7 games.

You have extended the playoffs by 4 games; but really a total of 3-4 days at most.
