Not to Calgary.
Kessel did very well, and perhaps better than in Toronto, after landing into almost a perfect situation.
The Leafs traded their number one pick (third overall) in 1991 for Tom Kurvers. This turned out to be Scott Neidermayer. However, they could also have picked Peter Forsberg, Kovalev, or Naslund.
In fact, at the time of the trade, the Leafs were on pace to finish dead last. Which would have meant they traded Eric Lindros for Tom Kurvers. They ahd to scramble and make a trade with Quebec to improve the team (and make Quebec worse) to finish a few points out of last place.
