Rittich has started four of the last ten games, which is WAY up from his limited starts last year. Because when you starter is playing terrible and your backup is still starting less than 50 percent of the games in a 10-game stretch, I don't consider that giving him the ball.
Smith still has it and he's been dropping it every time.
Giving Rittich more of a chance is, imo not the same thing as saying "Hey, the job is yours if you play well enough, here's a bunch of starts in a row to see what you can do."
