Agreed... I don't think it fixes the root problem but I do think it helps.
Burning the money that was going to be used for the Olympics to keep property taxes low does nothing to help solve the real problem and is just a bandaid. That money will be needed the following year and so on until we get good news of a pipeline and this is when it will hit taxpayers just as hard.
Using that money for the games is going to tilt the scale towards growth for a few years which in turn will help with the cities collection of taxes and help offset the costs of the games.
Other cities are not lined up to host because they do not need the defibulator right now. Their citizens are not facing incredible tax hikes (without even hosting the games). They have business pushing forward.
I know these examples are driving some people mad so for fun, here is another...
If I had $10 to my name and I knew I owed someone $10 in a few months, would I hold onto the $10, pay my debt and then be left with nothing or would I spend thant $10 on a snow shovel and try to make it back + some by shovelling walks for the next few months.
