I've had more fun on Light's Hope than I've had on retail for a decade.
It definitely doesn't completely recapture the actual feeling of vanilla WoW since most players are min-maxing and know the game like the back of their hand, but the community feel is similar to how my realm felt back in the day. It's a fundamentally stronger MMO. That the server has been able to maintain such a large population for so long seems to imply that nostalgia isn't the main staying point.
Now if Blizzard does their best to recreate Classic as it was while relieving the player base of the fears and drama that exists on private servers, I think it will be a good time.
