And this is nuts to me. It is essentially playing all your chips on the hope of this one outcome. The Flames are jockeying for the Division lead under the present circumstances, and I think stand to improve on that even with Rittich only increasing his workload incrementally to start. This also helps to insulate Smith from going completely cold, and provides a safety valve in then event Rittich slips. He is still pretty young and not with much experience in this League. I find it baffling how quickly some posters are to fast-tack his development.
