Hawks have an uncanny ability to make opponent's goalie look like 1st star of the night. Hawks, who can never rely on goaltender to keep them in a game, once again were robbed by opposing netminder posting 1st star performance.

This time Chicago squad storming out of the gate, surprisingly outshooting Flyers 11-5 in first period and scoring the first goal of the game only second time this season. Marcel Hossa scored from Hudler and Van Ryn only 6 minutes into the game. However, terrific performance by 1st star of the game Robert Esche kept Flyers in the game in 1st while Brent Johnson gave up a goal from 53 OV Tyler Pock. Inspired by that, Flyers came back in the 2nd, in turn outshoting Hawks 20-6. Score remained 1:1 to 17 minutes of 2nd as Claude Lemieux went to the box for goaltender interference and Steven Reinprecht notched a powerplay marker. 52 seconds later Modin scored the last goal of the game, making score 3-1. In 3rd teams combined only for 15 shots and went scoreless. With 5 seconds to go, Lubos Bartecko tried to make up for terrible -2 performance by injuring Flyer Heins.

Hawks GM put the blame for the lost mainly on top line, as they were terrible without Bulis and Therien and were on the ice for both Flyers ES goals.
