That's almost weird enough to be cute--though I'm guessing your mom didn't think so.
My personal pet peeve is books. I actually LOVE getting books for Christmas--but I'm a PhD student in Literature, so there's a bit of a trick to finding books that I like and also don't already have. As a result, I'm pretty forgiving when people try to buy me a book--but one incident really took the cake:

Chicken Soup for the Writer's Soul one year. I wish I were kidding. What the heck am I supposed to do with that drivel? Also, could there be a less personal gift? I hate to be mean, but that one really got under my skin.
