It's no secret the Avs intend to move on from Varlamov when his contract is up, and I'd bet Treliving has him in his sights for the off-season. Maybe that plan could be moved up. Problem is now he's playing lights-out to start the season, so a deal now would mean giving up assets. Something along the lines of a Jankowski or Mangiapane + Smith. Mid-season deals for goalies are tough to find a match.

The Avalanche have designs on being a playoff team, and Grubauer has had limited experience as a starter. I don't think they would consider moving Varlamov at this early point of the season. At least not unless it was an offer they couldn't refuse, and I sure don't want the Flames making one of those.
