Pitching and maybe a SS And OF. Next year there is going to be a great filed of FA's, particularly OF's. This year part of the reason that the salaries seemed so insane is that there was so little out there. Maybe wait to see what you can get next year. now there is a big risk you may lose Wells or have to pay him more but there is some good talent next year to be had.
I don't think it is a horrible signing. I just think there are better players out there than Wells and that 18 million seems like a lot of money for him. Obviously Blue Jay fans think a lot of Wells and are going to defend him. My guess is he is a little better than I think and maybe not as great as some fans think.
It sounds like the Blue Jays will still have some money to go after pitching which is a good thing. I just don't see how they are going to compete with the Sox and Yankees with there current roster and perhaps by moving Wells they could have got the pitching they needed.
Had they not wasted money on Thomas and got pitching with that money I may have liked the move more.
