If McAvoy doesn't hit Gaudreau, Gaudreau collects the puck and gets a 2nd ten bell scoring chance. If Gaudreau isn't twisting, maybe McAvoy gives him the Neal treatment. But it's a matter of a split second.
McAvoy doesn't chicken wing Gaudreau. It's an interference penalty, called correctly on the ice. It's not malicious, it's not predatory, it's not suspension worthy. It's hockey.
If we lose Johnny for ten games because Eric Staal slashed his hands 20 times with no call, I'm pissed. If we lose him for ten minutes because he got hit at the side of the net looking for a rebound after a breakaway, charge that to the game.
I hope Gaudreau is okay and I'm glad the spotters removed him.
