This not a proclamation of anything other than the fact that his potential is worth more than some rental or unknown commodity. Many CP posters were calling for him to be traded for the first 2nd round offer that came around, or to package him up with a prospect and a 1st round pick for a pending UFA goalie. Nobody is saying he's going to take Monahan's place as 1st line C.
Yes, he needs to develop consistency. In other words, he's a young player. Put him in a position to succeed, and I think he will surprise many.
