I was the same but leaning towards yes. They really changed the game and made the integration of rap and metal a staple of music.
They certainly didn't invent it though, but they made it a genre. They built off the shoulders of guys like Chuck D, who I personally think probably influenced rock music as much as he did rap.

The flow and instrumentation sounds a lot like Rage, not as crunchy, but you can hear the influence. I am sure RATM would agree considering members of the band collaborated with him on other projects.
