I like getting sports books, but only if they are biographies or other books that have some sort of narrative behind them. I don't need a hocky reference book that is basically a printed version of hockeydb.com. The Internet has made books like that pretty obsolete. Yet every Xmas I get some sort of "sports reference book" like that.
At this point I sound like a bit of a tool dissing these gifts. The reality is that I don't care all that much what I get and I realize I'm probably a hard guy to buy for. I enjoy Xmas for the time spent with the family, giving gifts that I think someone I care about will like and what not.
But please - no more Guiness Book of Records.
