I think it comes down to impact, and I don't know the answer to this.
A fan of a team is hopeful. When they lose they are disappointed. But then the have to spend three days battling overt negative overreactions is actually depressing as hell.
Is the same true of the other side?
Do people that enjoy wallowing in losses to some degree find optimistic people a challenge? Do they find it equally as depressing to have to logically defend how bad things are when fans seem too happy?
